Bygone Bennington
by Joseph H. Hall
Joe Hall was born in Bennington in 1932. His first eight years of schooling were in a rural one-room schoolhouse; from there he went to Bennington High School. He married Mary Immen. They raised six children and he worked and lived in Bennington for his entire 86 years. His mother told her children about Bennington and its people. His parents had a small dairy farm on Harwood Hill in Bennington. Joe went very early in the morning with his father to deliver their retail milk route before school. Delivering the milk route, meeting with customers and becoming aware of the town’s points of interest, he grew to love Bennington. Growing up, living and working in Bennington makes Joe very fond of his hometown and its history.
Due to his knowledge and interest in Bennington, a number of years ago, Rich Ryder, station manager at Radio Station WBTN AM in Bennington, asked Joe to do short, three to five minute spots of Bennington history. They were broadcast, Monday through Friday, after the noon news. Rich named the program, "Bygone Bennington". This book is the accumulation of all of the radio broadcasts with pictures, which relate to the various subjects.
